Insurers carry a particular version of the technology problem.
Four years rebuilding a century-old insurer, a regional merger, and embedded insurance across three continents.
Why insurance is different
Insurers carry a particular version of the technology problem: a core system built in-house decades ago that encodes the pricing and claims logic of the business, a distribution network of independent brokers who are the real customer, and a regulator who moves slowly but absolutely.
Most transformation plans written for banks fail here, because they assume the distribution channel can be changed as fast as the platform.
Selected work
Four years rebuilding a century-old insurer
Redefined company-level objectives and the technology strategy, and rebuilt the sales and pricing, claims and administration processes. Organised delivery into tribes and squads, hired a COO, and designed and launched the data strategy and architecture. Set out the decoupling scenarios for the proprietary AS/400 core, and delivered the first insurance API in the Argentine market. Also produced the initial business plan and brand relaunch for the group's workers' compensation company, and ran an insurtech roadshow across four cities to recruit leadership and build an ecosystem around the group.
Three-country general insurance merger
Technology strategy and backbone integration across three regulatory jurisdictions, in a transaction publicly valued at close to USD 1.6 billion that made the acquirer the second-largest P&C insurer in Latin America.
Embedded insurance for a global card issuer
Evaluated a global embedded insurance solution: identified candidate insurtech providers, mapped companies with insurance APIs, and set out the integration scenarios with the issuer's ecosystem along with the CAPEX each would require across the three regions.
An insurance company built inside a bank
Creation of a group insurance company alongside the bank's digital wallet, as part of the wider transformation portfolio.
